Do It Yourself
Your Go-To for Hydroponic Nutrients in Australia
The Original
D.I.Y Hydroponics for beginners
Many people think that hydroponics is a highly specialised process growing plants in water using complicated, expensive equipment with highly sophisticated plant nutrients. WELL, THAT IS NOT SO.
All you need is say a 10 litre bucket or container, plastic kitty litter box or coolite box from your supermarket or fruit shop. Or whatever you have. Drill a drain hole 40 mm from the bottom. Now fill it with perlite, (medium or coarse), clay balls, coconut fibre, coarse sand or cheap potting mix. When using sand or potting mix, put something free draining in the bottom. eg. coarse perlite. You can plant seeds in this or get plants from your local nursery. Some growers choose to rinse the potting mix off when planting in perlite. As you gain confidence and experience, you can become self-sufficient by growing your own fruit and vegetables and have a lot of fun too. Plants have different nutrient requirements. For example, leafy plants like lettuce herbs flowers and young seedlings, only need half the concentration of your tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, egg plants etc. Now the most important part, THE NUTRIENT. Our well balanced nutrient with over 50 important plant elements will ensure your success from the start.

FAQ
Frequently Asked
WHEN I AM DOING HYDROPONICS, Can I re-use my perlite ?
Yes. After the old plant has been disposed of, get as many roots out as you can and thoroughly wash the perlite in a tub, wheelbarrow or similar and lay it out to dry on a tarpaulin or whatever you have available. When dry, re-use it again. However, some growers prefer to replace it. Personal choice.
What happens when it rains ?
Rain is always a gardener’s friend. If there is a big rain event coming, top up the nutrient to the overflow and sit back. The nutrients are heavier than the fresh water. When the rain is over, business as usual.
Do my plants use all those nutrients ?
This is a good one. Watercress will take up to 90 different minerals and nutrients, other champions are sweet potato, 70 and tomatoes, 56. Other crops require an average of 40. Plants are very versatile and only take what they need but, in most cases, must get by on what they are given. More information, see secrets of plant nutrition e-book.
Can I buy just the Nutrient ?
Absolutely. Because there are so many different hydroponic systems and gardening fertilizer requirements, it is important to have a well-balanced nutrient for all your plants. See our products price list.
Can I buy the nutrient powder and mix it myself ?
Yes, this is a good, economic way to get your nutrients if you intend to use a large quantity. See products and prices.
How long can I store my Nutrients ?
In powder form, because it is vacuum sealed, it will keep indefinitely. In the liquid concentrated form, part A and part B, it is recommended it be used within 12 months, and it is recommended that you use the diluted mixture within 30 days.
What can I grow ?
Any plant you want to grow. Trees that take a long time to reach maturity, you may reconsider, however, I have had success growing fruit trees in pots of soil and supplemented them with the Nutrient.
How often should I feed my plants ?
This depends a lot on the weather, however in the garden for example in addition to your regular irrigation, with tomatoes, cucumbers, egg plants, corn etc. damp the soil once a week with your nutrient, hydroponic growing in sand, perlite etc, every 2 days. Be aware that this is rule of thumb and local knowledge and conditions are important.
Why Do I need A&B Nutrients?
To enable us to get all the 50 elements, one part has Nitrates, and the other has Phosphates, Sulphates and trace elements. In powder and liquid concentrate, these are incompatable and overtime will form a solid that the plants can’t obsorb. This is why we recommend using the mixed plant nutrient within 30 days.
Can I get a discount for repeat business?
Yes! most definitely. All repeat customers receive a 10% discount on all our products.
